NuAT — Center for Anthropologic of Work,
Biographical Studies and Trajectories
The Center for the Anthropology of Work, Biographical Studies and Trajectories (NuAT) gathers PPGAS´s university teachers, researchers and students and collaborator from other institutions aiming at, on the one hand, researching, questioning and debating issues related to a fairly traditional PPGAS line - "The Anthropology of Peasantry and Working Classes". On the other hand, it brings together researchers interested in epistemological and methodological questions about the use of trajectories, life histories, narratives and biographical stories (principally, but not exclusively, amongst popular classes), in anthropology and related fields, as sociology and history. The NuAT was first organized by the end of 2011 in response to the interest on the anthropology of work generated by various scientific events (such as the Reunião Brasileira de Antropologia and the Reunião de Antropologia do Mercosul), and in recent years – resuming the Working Groups on “Operative Culture” of the eighties. Today, the anthropology of work includes both rural and urban workers, as well as those transiting between these social spaces. In fact, the separation between countryside and city casts shadows upon interstitial spaces and points of views. As it is known, questions raised on the one side may bring light upon problems emerging on the other, and vice versa. The Center for the Anthropology of Work, Biographical Studies and Trajectories (NuAT) was born from the Center for the Anthropology of Politics (NuAP) and both centers keep strong links of cooperation and scientific exchange.
